4 Ways Parents Can Support STEM Learning

As a parent, you may be wondering how you can support your child in their education. STEM Sports® has compiled a list of four key ways you can support your child in STEM learning:

  1. Find ways to connect STEM concepts / STEM curricula to real-life examples and jobs. Students benefit from tangible examples that answer the question: why am I learning this? One great example, STEM Sports® endorses is showing the science behind sports. Each of our curricula highlights STEM jobs in sports that relate directly to what your child is learning. This engages children in what they are learning and increases retention over time!
  1. Bring STEM home! Finding ways to engage your child in STEM outside of the classroom is a great way to improve their skills and create a passion for the subjects. STEM Sports® offers a monthly subscription model so your child can engage in STEM lessons. To learn more, click here.
  1. Create an environment where questions are encouraged. Children always tend to ask more questions. Allow this curiosity to blossom and it will get them more interested in STEM. Even if you have to look up the answers, working through these thoughts is a great way to encourage your child and help them in their education moving forward. One place for a set of tools can be found by visiting our Resource page for our STEM Sports Glossary.
  1. Find new STEM-related activities to do as a family. This can be anything from going to a science museum, group STEM activities or clubs. Whether parents are involved or not, allowing your child to learn in groups is a great way to increase excitement and improve their collaboration skills.

STEM education can be a daunting subject area for parents and children alike. By creating a fun, safe space for your child to explore science, technology, engineering, and math, you are setting them up for success in their education and future job.
