Baseball activity kits to enhance students’ STEM skills

"I observed a STEM Baseball lesson and it was exceptional! The students were engaged at the highest level because they had to physically participate and interact with their environment. STEM Sports is exactly the type of program I want all of our students to experience!"
Shane McCord
Superintendent, Gilbert (AZ) Public Schools

Our STEM Baseball program will give your students the green light to learn about the science behind the national pastime. Students will hit and run through our double play combination of cognitive learning and physical activity as they round the bases through the eight module program. There’s nothing foul about adding STEM Baseball to your curriculum lineup when you know we’ll be covering the bases with lessons such as:

  • Learning about the composition of a baseball
  • Understanding the field of play on a baseball diamond
  • Hitting success at the plate
  • Engineering a pitching machine

All of our modules correlate to 5E lesson planning and we even include an extra inning, called Extend, to create a full count, bases loaded opportunity for every student.

Each STEM Baseball kit comes with one (1) STEM Baseball Curriculum Manual, six (6) Rawlings baseballs, one (1) Rawlings baseball cut-in-half, one (1) Rawlings softball, one (1) Bushnell radar gun, six (6) digital stopwatches, six (6) 25′ tape measures, and one (1) weight scale.

No experience or previous knowledge of baseball is required to teach this curriculum. Our STEM Sports baseball manual includes all of the necessary information about the sport and the science behind it to properly implement the curriculum.

Each manual contains content for a minimum of 16 hours of instruction that includes healthy, physical activity. All of the supplies in the kit are non-perishable and are designed to last for several years. Some supplied items may need to be replaced over time.

STEM Baseball includes lessons and activities centered around the composition of an actual baseball, understanding the dimensions of the baseball diamond, engineering a pitching machine, and much more.

Some lessons centered around pitching and ball composition can be completed in a suitable indoor environment (i.e. gymnasium). However, for activities requiring hitting and fielding, an outdoor space would be recommended for implementation.

Yes, digital resources are available for all of our STEM Sports kits by visiting the digital tools link found in your curriculum manual.

Each curriculum has eight lessons aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and/or Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and/or National Standards for K-12 Physical Education.
