About the STEM Volleyball Curriculum
The STEM Volleyball curriculum is designed to pair strategic STEM-based activities with basic volleyball gameplay and recent technological achievements that have enhanced gameplay. STEM Volleyball enables students the opportunity to get behind the sport they love with modules centered around innovation and technology. With lessons built around calculating contact time, optimal serving speed, and the science behind serving, STEM Volleyball introduces students to fundamental aerodynamic laws and concepts – Magnus Effect and Bernoulli’s Principle – through the game they love. This educational enrichment program is made up of eight (8) modules and worksheets that align with Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards. Each STEM Volleyball kit includes an easily administered teacher’s manual, as well as reusable sporting and science equipment for the program to be fully implemented. The program is adaptable and can be scaled and taught to younger or older student groups in a variety of settings but is composed explicitly for grades 5-8.
STEM Volleyball Kits
In addition to the teacher's manual, a single volleyball kit includes six (6) Molten First Touch Volleyballs, six (6) Molten Soft Touch Volleyballs, and six (6) Molten Recreational Volleyballs. Additionally, each kit includes one (1) Bushnell radar gun, six (6) ribbon spools, six (6) rolls of blue painter's tape, one (1) ball pump, one (1) package of ball needles, one (1) package of 12-inch latex balloons, one (1) weight scale, six (6) 100-foot tape measures, one (1) box of 500 toothpicks, one (1) package of 100 straws, one (1) spool of fishing line, and two (2) Molten SPB ball bags.
